What is Vitamin E?

Vitamin E, known as all – rac -α-tocopheryl acetate in commercial form as animal feed supplementation, is present in natural form in the lipid fraction of feed ingredients, albeit susceptible to oxidation. Vitamin E cannot be synthesised by poultry and pigs and thus must be included in the diet.

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that is required for animal growth, helps to maintain immune function and animal health, and aids in the prevention of muscular dystrophy in young calves.

Vitamin E is currently the largest amount in feed additives. About 200-300g of VE in 1KG feed is used for mixing. The normal and water-soluble VE content is 50%. The lack of vitamin E additives can cause animal infertility, white muscle disease, nutritional muscle atrophy, liver necrosis, poor growth, and nutritional deficiencies.

The specific effects of feed grade vitamin E are as follows:

1. Biological anti-oxidation effect, prevent the peroxidation of lipid in cell membrane and a series of damage and loss caused by it;

2. Vitamin E can improve the body’s immunity and resistance to diseases;

3. Vitamin E is a cofactor of cytochrome reductase and is involved in the regulation of cell DNA synthesis;

4. It can reduce the toxicity of cadmium, mercury, arsenic, silver and other heavy metals;

5. Vitamin E is also involved in phosphorylation, synthesis of vitamin C and pantothenic acid, and metabolism of sulfur-containing amino acids and vitamin B12.
