What is Valine?

Valine is a branched non-polar α-amino acid containing five carbon atoms. Its chemical name is α-amino-3-methylbutanoic acid, with a molecular formula of C5H11NO2 and a molecular weight of 117.15. Valine is a white monoclinic crystal or crystalline powder. It is odorless and has a special bitter taste. It has a melting point of 315°C. It is stable to heat, light and air. It is easily soluble in water, almost insoluble in absolute ethanol and ether. Acid separation is difficult. Valine is an optically active compound, divided into L type and D type.

The chemically synthesized methionine is L-type. L-valine is one of the 20 amino acids that make up proteins, and it is an essential amino acid and a sugar-producing amino acid for mammals. D-valine is present in some actinomycins such as valine. In animals, the L-form is easily absorbed by the intestinal wall, and its physiological effect is twice that of the D-form. Valine is also one of the three branched-chain amino acids, and has a wide range of applications in human nutrition additives, feed additives, seasonings, medicines, pesticides and health products.
