What is Lutein?

Lutein, also known as “phytolutein”, is widely found in vegetables, fruits and some flowers. It is a general term for a class of natural pigments. Its molecular formula is C40H56O2, which is a carotenoid active substance. Carotenoids are mainly divided into two categories according to their different structures: one is hydrocarbon type, called carrots; the other is oxidized type, consisting of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, called xanthophylls.
