What is Toosendanin?
Toosendanin is derived from the roots, bark, or seeds of the Chinaberry tree (Melia toosendan Sieb. et Zucc.), with varying azadirachtin content in different parts. Toosendanin is a natural triterpenoid compound, insoluble in water but readily soluble in ethanol and methanol. It has stomach poison, contact toxicity, and some antifeedant effects on pests. After ingestion, it affects the nervous system and intestinal function of pests, leading to paralysis, loss of appetite, and ultimately death. Toosendanin is biodegradable and exhibits low toxicity to mammals at appropriate doses, making it relatively environmentally friendly and a widely used plant-derived pesticide.
